Still another study reports that the number of leukemia cases is very low in countries that eat a lot of dishes containing tumeric.

Tumeric extract from the leaves of the plant acts as an external antibiotic and is effective in preventing infection in wounds.

Tumeric has been consumed in large quantities by millions of people for centuries without ill effect and it is considered to be a safe herb. However, it is possible that tumeric extract might cause contraction of the uterus and is not recommened for pregnant women or nursing mothers. Do not use tumeric for the treatment of gallstones without consulting a physician.

The benefits of tumeric make it an important herb to add to the food you eat. There are lots of tumeric recipes available so you can easily incorporate it into your diet. Use it as a spice to flavor soups. Mix it with honey and rub it into the skin of a chicken before roasting. All curry dishes contain tumeric. You don't have to go to a health food store to buy tumeric either. It is available in the spice section of your grocery store.
