Peppermint Tea Benefits Many of the things we buy are flavored with peppermint - toothpaste, candy, mouthwash, bad breath lozenges, and hand creams just to name a few. Read through the peppermint tea benefits below and you will understand why peppermint is used in so many products.

You can buy peppermint tea bags at the grocery store or health food store but you can also grow your own mint, dry the leaves, and save them in an air-tight container. I have grown peppermint for years.

One problem with it in the garden is that it is invasive and spreads all over the place. You have to keep cutting it back severely and digging up the roots as well. I do this about three times every summer just to keep it in check. I then dry some of the leaves for use later. When I have enough leaves saved to make tea for my purposes, I use the fresh leaves to rub all over the dog. It is the best flea deterrent I have ever found.

To make a tea or an infusion out of the loose peppermint leaves, just heat a kettle of water to boiling. Pour the hot water over a few leaves placed in a container and strain the tea into a cup. Add a little honey and/or lemon juice if you like.

Peppermint tea can be used to treat the following ailments:

  • nausea and morning sickness
  • heartburn
  • coughs due to colds

  • mild asthma
  • gallstones
  • indigestion and flatulence
  • bad breath
  • menstrual cramping
  • muscle pain
  • reduces appetite
  • irritable bowel syndrome

Using peppermint tea to strengthen the immune system is also growing in popularity. When the immune system is weak, you are more susceptible to colds, the flu, infections, and diseases. There is a high amount of calcium, potassium, and vitamin B in peppermint tea. This can help your immune system to fight those germs off and keep you feeling good.
