What are PMS Symptoms?

Many women experience some or all of these premenstrual syndrome symptoms:

Home Remedies Chamomile Tea

If your PMS symptoms are severe, it is wise to see a physician to rule out severe hormone imbalance or an under active thyroid.

Herbs for PMS

Spearmint tea not only helps with the irritability that comes with PMS but also the acne breakout that often happens at this time of the month as well. Spearmint tea bags can be found at health food stores.

Lavender is well known for raising the spirits and it can do that before and during your period as well. Dab a few drops of lavender oil on your wrists so you can inhale the aroma over a long period of time. If your lavender oil seems really strong, you can dilute it by adding it to a carrier oil such as grape seed oil.

Chamomile Tea was our great grandmother's answer to insominia. It does this by reducing tension and that is why it can be valuable in reducing anxiety and irritability that comes with PMS. Drink chamomile tea a couple of times a day and let it help you sail through those PMS days feeling more calm and relaxed. See Benefits of Chamomile.

Catnip isn't just for cats. It makes cats playful and relaxed and it can do that for you as well before and during that time of the month. Make a tea with the leaves of catnip and sip it thoughout the day. Catnip, (Nepeta cataria) a member of the mint family, is easy to grow. You will find it in garden stores every spring. I have found that planting it in a pot and keeping it out of reach of cats is best. I once planted it in my flower garden and it could hardly survive because every cat in the neighborhood visited often, rolling in it with glee, and practically killing it.

Lemon Balm is another member of the mint family. Make a tea using dried leaves steeped in hot water. Like the other mints, it is easy to grow and can be dried for use throughout the year. Just keep the dried leaves in an airtight container.

A tea made with dandelion leaves will relieve water retention. Drink two or three cups of this tea throughout the day.

Evening primrose oil is reported to relieve the bloating, irritability, and breast pain experienced before and during menstruation. Learn more about Evening Primrose Oil Benefits.
