A home remedy for stretch marks may take a while to work but the end result is worth the effort. While there is probably no cure for stretch marks, you can make them lighter and less noticeable.
Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched and the middle layer is broken. It happens mostly to women during pregnancy but can also happen with sudden weight gain in both men and women. Girls sometimes develop stretch marks during puberty when rapid growth occurs.
Stretch marks start out as long red lines under the skin and gradually fade to white. They are unsightly and most women are desperate to get rid of them. Laser treatment is the most effective way to do this but it is expensive.
A home remedy for stretch marks is a lot less expensive and can be effective if used diligently. The stretch mark home remedies below all involve using some type of oil and massaging it into the skin. It is possible that the massaging action itself does as much to get rid of the stretch marks as the different oils do. Massaging the skin stimulates blood flow and distributes the collagen more evenly. To achieve the maximum effect, exfoliate the area once or twice a week with an exfoliate cream. There are some inexpensive ones that you can even get at the grocery store that are very good such as the one made by St. Ives.
Emu Oil - Stretch Marks Remedy
Emu oil is made from the fat of an Australian bird called the Emu. It is an old cure used by the aborigines for bruises, wounds, and burns. It penetrates all the layers of the skin and is known to reduce scarring and inflammation. For some, it can completely erase stretch marks or at least diminish them. It will be more effective on recently developed stretch marks than those that are older than five years.
Find a high quality Emu oil and massage it into the stretch marks twice a day. The best time is immediately after a bath or shower. Massage for five to ten minutes each time. This step is very important.
Vitamin E Oil - Stretch Mark Remedy
Vitamin E oil has been used for a long time to diminish scars and prevent them from forming over new wounds. Simply break open a capsule of Vitamin E and rub the oil into the stretch marks. Again massage for ten minutes or so.
Cocoa Butter - Stretch Marks Remedy
Many women report success with massaging cocoa butter into the stretch marks. Most seem to find the cocoa butter stick to be more effective than the cocoa butter oil or lotion. Apply the butter immediately after a bath or shower and massage. Then do it one more time either in the morning or before going to bed. Don't just apply it and go on your way. Take some time to actually massage the area.
It seems that the cocoa butter for stretch marks works better for women with darker skin. If one home remedy for stretch marks doesn't work as well as you would like, try another one.
