Fungus infections are so common that most of us will have one at some time in our life. Fungal skin infections are caused by the fungi that live all around us. Not all fungi are harmful. Mold, mildew, and mushrooms are fungi.
Most fungi reproduce by spores. These spores can be in the air, it water, on surfaces like gym benches, or inside shoes. When conditions are right they begin to reproduce--warm, moist areas like between the toes or in skin folds.
We become aware of fungal infections when we develop a rash - an itchy one. Here are some examples:
Athlete's foot
Swimmer's ear
Ringworm
Dandruff
Nail infections
Vaginal yeast infections
Diaper rash
Thrush
Clean people can get a fungal infection just as easily as not so clean people. The fungus just needs a moist warm place in which to thrive.
Whether you have a fungal skin rash, a nail fungus, or a vaginal yeast infection there are some good home remedies that can be very effective in treating the infection. The thing to watch for, however, is yellow oozing pus that may indicate there is also a bacterial infection. In this case and in cases where the infection is still sreading despite the use of home remedies, a medical professional should be consulted. It is also important to note that what appears to be a fungal infection may be something else entirely.
