Get Relief for Constipation With a Natural Stool Softner
Consider using foods for constipation problems. For many just a simple and temporary change in diet will give relief for constipation especially if you experience constipation only occassionally.
If you suffer from chronic constipation it is likely you can relieve the problem by making a more permanent change in your diet by eliminating those foods which are likely to cause the problem and adding more foods which will give you relief.
Constipation happens when the stools in the colon become hard and dry. Foods rich in fiber attract more liquid into the colon and make the stools softer and easier to pass.
Great Foods for Constipation Relief
These foods are high in fiber:
Whole grains of all kinds, beans, prunes, figs, lentils, brown rice, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, spinach, cabbage, green beans, asperagus, beets, and peas. Fruits with the peel left on such as apples and pears. Berries such as blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. Cantalope and kiwi are also good. Nuts are good, particularly almonds and peanuts.
Just adding a bowl of whole grain cereal in the morning with a handful of berries, changing your bread to one with plenty of seeds, eating a handful of peanuts, and eating more high fiber vegetables is enough to solve the problem.
For an occassional bout of constipation, try eating a few Fig Newton cookies. This was my grandmother's favorite constipation remedy. Or you could try eating a few dried prunes every day. If you don't like prunes, eat fresh or canned plums instead. Don't go overboard with either figs, prunes, or plums until you find out how they affect you.
Along with these foods for constipation, drink plenty of water. A lack of drinking enough water or liquids is sometimes the lone cause of constipation and increasing the fiber in your diet without increasing your water intake can make the problem worse. Don't drink a large quantity of water all at once. Drink a number of small glasses thoughout the day. If it gets tiresome, make a herbal tea to drink instead. Just keep yourself well hydrated throughout the day.
If after making dietary changes, you are still experiencing a problem, you may need a magnesium supplement as well. The great thing about magnesium supplements is that you do not become dependent on them. Visit Magnesium and Constipation to find out dosage and possible side effects information.
