Benefits of Green Tea

The Health Advantages of Drinking Green Tea

The many benefits of green tea truly makes it a "wonder tea". Drinking a few cups of green tea every day can not only reduce the effects of many diseases but can also help prevent them. Both the Japanese and the Chinese grow and export green tea.

Home Remedies Green Tea Leaves Green tea is both an antiviral and an antioxidant. This means it can reduce your chances of catching a cold or flu but if you do, it can help speed your recovery. The antioxidants in green tea prevent the damage that free radicals do to the cells of the body. The damage from free radicals is suspected of playing a role in cancer and heart disease.

Drinking several cups of green tea a day:

  • lowers the risk of several types of cancer
  • aids the healing of wounds
  • reduces risk of dementia
  • reduces cartilage and collagen destruction in arthritis
  • raises metabolism
  • speeds up fat oxidation (burns fat)
  • reduces high blood pressure
  • reduces high cholesterol
  • reduces plaque on the teeth and prevents cavities
  • reduces inflammation

How Much Green Tea?

Most scientific studies have had participants drink three to five cups of green tea a day. That's kind of hard to do if you don't enjoy the taste of green tea. There are supplements available that contain green tea extract but most proponents say that to get the most benefit you should drink the tea. This is especially true for those using green tea for fat loss. I have seen one warning not to take green tea supplements if you have liver problems.

There is also the question of whether decaffinated green tea is as effective as caffinated. It is thought that the caffiene in green tea may help in fat oxidation. But, if you just can't tolerate caffiene, go ahead and use the decaffinated tea.

How to Brew Green Tea

To brew the best cup of green tea whether you are using loose leaf tea or tea bags and to gain the full benefits of green tea, use a lower hot water temperature than you would when making black tea or herbal tea. In a tea kettle bring your water to the just before boiling stage. Remove the kettle from the heat and let it sit for a minute before pouring it over your tea leaves or tea bag. Let it steep for only two to three minutes. Drink and enjoy!

The many advantages of drinking green tea makes it an easy addition to our daily diet.
