Chamomile Tea Benefits and Side Effects

The benefits of chamomile were even known to the Romans. Today most people are aware of chamomile tea benefits and it is a popular bedtime drink. However, the benefits of chamomile go far beyond that of a sleep aid.

Chamomile Tea Home Remedy Chamomile comes from the daisy family and it is the flower heads both fresh and dried which are used for essential oil and teas. It is easy to grown and its pretty white daisy flowers makes it a nice addition to the garden.

Chamomile acts as a antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, and antineuralgic. It has proven to be especially effective in killing staph and strep bacteria. It is safe for babies and children. Remember that Peter Rabbit's mother gave him a cup of chamomile tea to calm him down after he returned from his harrowing adventure in Mr. McGregor's garden.

The Azulene oil is primarily used in skin care products for it anti-inflammatory properties. Roman Chamomile essential oil is used in aromatherapy and also in skin care products.

Many people drink the tea just because they enjoy its apple-like flavor and not because of chamomile benefits.

Are There Any Chamomile Side Effects?

People who are allergic to ragweed will most likely also be allergic to chamomile. I have read conflicting reports on whether chamomile is safe for pregnant women so, therefore, I do not recommend it if you are pregnant or think you might be. High doses of chamomile will cause vomiting. If chamomile makes you extremely drowsy, do not use it if you are going to be driving.
